 F rom Taiwan to the World  Lee Teng-hui who was never Lee Teng-hui 從不是李登輝的李登輝 Chen Yung-Feng, Director of Center for Japan Area Studies, Tunghai University 陳永峰 東海大學日本區域研究中心主任 The significance and sophistication of the philosophy of Mr Lee Teng-hui (1923-2020) is unprecedented in the history of Taiwanese thought. On August 23, 2015, my article entitled “Lee Teng-hui:  I am I who is not I ” was published on a newspaper’s opinion forum. The article was obscure and complicated, but surprisingly, being widely discussed and quoted, it went viral within my academic community.   The expanded version of the article was later included in the Chinese version of Lee’s book “Standpoint of the New Taiwan”,  preceding his preface. Without doubt I would assume that the article had also been read by Mr. Lee.
